My son has officially transitioned to adult care with all his various specialists with just one more to go – headache clinic. I’m a little disappointed that the doctor will be meeting him for the first through video chat but I guess it’s better than nothing. As long as he can get his migraine meds filled he will be happy.

What is really new to him is in addition to the televisit with the doctor he is also scheduled for a group therapy televisit a week later. The scheduler made it sound like this is a requirement. This is out of my son’s comfort zone. He doesn’t want to discuss his headaches with other patients. He’s also wondering how this fits in with HIPAA regulations.

He wants to try and get out of it so he’s going to discuss it with the doctor during the private televisit. Maybe we misunderstood how they go about this.

Have you participated in group therapy with any of your clinics via telemedicine? Please share your experience and tips.

Hi @colleensteele, I am happy to hear that Cullen’s almost fully transitioned to adult care. I agree; I had the first appt with the psychiatrist and neurologist via telemedicine. It was not my favorite, either.

As far as group therapy, this is a clinic visit, not a support group. This would not fall into my comfort level, either. I prefer one on one time with my doctors. I also agree, how is this working with HIPPA. I would mention this before and let him know how Cullen feels about this. I want to hear back what y’all learn.

This is a new one for me. But then again, it is 2020!

@jenc I’m hoping we misunderstood what it really is but if we got it right Cullen is going to flat out tell the doctor he doesn’t want to do it. My introverted Cullen is not up for a zoom call with strangers about his health. I’ll let you know what the doctor has to say about it.

Yes, I hope that was a misunderstanding but who knows in 2020? I am happy that Cullen will speak up about this. I would too. It sounds like it would violate HIPPA in so many ways.

Keep us posted. I hope that all goes well and not a group.
