Preparing for doctor’s appointments with pulmonary hypertension can be overwhelming. It can help to prepare in advance so you have a plan of what you want to discuss upon going into your appointment.

There can be many different ways for PH patients to prepare for their doctor’s appointment. One helpful strategy is to make a list of details of what you want to discuss. This can help you keep track of your appointment goals and ensure nothing is missed.

Keeping your medical information organized is also important. A binder, book, or even documentation on your phone can all be great ways to help keep a small form of personal medical history with you. This is especially helpful during new doctors appointments or appointments where you may need to review past medical treatments.

Bringing a support person, like a caregiver, friend, or family member, can also make a difference. Appointments can be stressful, and having someone there to advocate for you that has an understanding of your condition, medication, and needs can be a big help.

What tips or strategies have helped you prepare for PH doctor appointments? Do you bring a checklist, keep medical records, or rely on a support person? Share your experience to help others in the pulmonary hypertension community.

Hi Cullen, all of the above. Your column is extremely useful and important. Making a list of your questions, bringing uptpdate medications and bringing a caregiver, family member or friend is crucial. Trying yo remember everything is nearly impossible. Bringing a note pad to write down your doctor’s reconmmends.

I also try and make the appointment the only one that day. So often there are tests, labs etc. scheduled prior to seeing the doctor. I try and have all those done a day or two before if possible.

Thank you Cullen for your thoughtful suggestions. Have a great day 😀.
