Colleen, I just read your post about making sure you and all caregivers take care of the the self and not feel guilty. All the technics you found successful are very helpful. Not feeling guilty is so important for all of us caregivers and those with a chronic disease. Selfishness does not have to be negative. Think of a tree and think of the self as the root system and all those branches are the ones we take care of – are responsible for. If you don’t take of the self how can you begin to take care of all those branches. The self needs to care – make those appointments for yourself, take time out for yourself, take a day off and take a picnic and go to the beach, go have that massage therapy, watch a movie you have wanted to see or sit and that book. Remember the tree will not survive if the roots are not cared for. You do so much for others Colleen!

    • Carol, I can’t thank you enough for your kind words. I actually teared up. This might sound eccentric but I have a fascination and love for trees so it was a good choice that you compared them to caregiving. I love the imagery and will keep it in mind going forward. I really appreciate your thoughts.
        • You are very welcome Colleen. You are in my thoughts nearly every day especiallly now that we are back in WA in Port Ludlow. I keep you in my prayers and hope Washington does not open up yet and wish your family stays safe and we will too
