Could serotonin receptor be used to treat PH in the future?
Recent research has shown success in treating pulmonary hypertension mouse models with a serotonin receptor which prevented the disease. Although much more research needs to be done before it can be used in human clinical trials, scientists are hopeful that this may be a way to treat pulmonary hypertension in the future.

I haven’t been able to find enough information about this compound due to its early stage presence. I’m assuming it works on the 5HT2-class of receptors. Given that SSRIs (which increase serotonin availability for all 5HT receptors) might have potential cardiovascular effects via the 5HT2B receptor at least in infants born to pregnant women on these medications, what the research found makes sense with respect to what we know already.
Given the role of serotonin in mood, though, if this chemical can cross into the brain, researchers should exercise caution and watch for changes the drug can cause if it moves into human research.
