Hey, y’all. One of our newer members, @Denine, is in Alaska and wants to connect with others in that area. @Roger Bliss and Mary Ellen may be great folks to communicate with, Denine. They were here in AZ and CA and recently returned home to Alaska.

Denine shares, “Up here in Alaska, we have no PH specialists. Alaska is very far from any specialists located in the lower 48. I don’t fly, never have, so I get all my care here in Alaska. My cardiologist recently after a visit said that I am,” out of his Wheelhouse and above his pay grade”.

I am interested in what kinds of doctors and where in Alaska other PH patients are seeing if they are willing to share that information. I am very new to PH, but not new to heart and lung problems. I am also a complete beginner on this forum and forums in general, and have no idea how to go about this.

Right now, all that is being done for me is monitoring my conditions. I have been in decline the past two years, according to my echocardiograms, and heart caths, but any help is greatly appreciated.”

I would be happy to help a fellow Alaskan out. I have a couple doctors I deal with in Wasilla. One is a Pulmonologist who knows quite a bit and the other is a cardiologist who doesn’t know much about PH…….BUT……works with my PH doctor at UCSD who calls the shots.

There aren’t any doctors in AK, that I am aware of, who just do PH. They do a variety of things. PH is rare enough as not many in AK have it. A doctor that specializes in PH would go broke due to a lack of patients. That’s why I go south every winter.

We are still a couple of days from home. Still in the Yukon. We left SD on the 18th and have been “flower sniffing” on our way home. Mostly taking 2 lane roads. Should be home sometime Monday.

Hi, @Roger Bliss. Thanks for sharing your experience and wanting to help a fellow Alaskan. I’m certain @Denine would greatly appreciate any tips.

It sounds like you and Mary Ellen are taking your time. I love that y’all are stopping to “smell and see the roses.” 🌹Have a safe trip as you work toward home in Alaska again.

We look forward to hearing updates as y’all make it home and settle back there.

We got home last night. Gonna take us a while to get settled back in, but it’s good to be home.

Woo-hoo, @Roger Bliss. I’m so thankful to learn you arrived safely back home. There is no place like home, I know.

Take your time getting settled in and resting some. You will probably be ready to go within a day or two. I don’t believe the word “rest” is in your vocabulary. Hehe.

      Hi @Roger,

I hope your trip back to Alaska went well. It’s a beautiful trip! I see you’re in Wasilla, so we’re pretty close. I’m in Big Lake. I have a Cardiologist, but I don’t have a pulmonologist. I’m going to my primary this week and will be talking about that. I’d love some insight. Thank you so much for replying.

<div>This is the guy I use, as far as I know he is the only pulmonologist in the valley. I have been going to him since 2016. He was the first one to figure out my PH deal. I got to know him fairly well as I haul gravel for a living and have done projects both at his office and home. If you wish to know more about him, I would be happy to discuss that through a PM.
