Pulmonary Hypertension Treatment: Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Dr. Goldstein explains that pulmonary rehabilitation is a combination of exercise training, education and lifestyle changes and aims to improve the quality of life for patients. Patients attend classes that teach them about their lung condition, how healthy lungs work compared to impaired lungs, how to use their medications correctly, how to conserve energy, how to spot exacerbations, and how to cope better with their lung disease.
Patients are then given an exercise routine to follow whereby they attend two or three supervised sessions each week tailored to their exact needs. They also have access to a wide variety of health experts who can help them improve their lives with PH including dietitians, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
