The national director of development and research for the Scleroderma Foundation, Tracy Sperry, talks about the non-profit organization at the American Thoracic Society meeting in San Diego, California. She also explains how scleroderma is a disease that causes an overproduction of collagen which can lead to thickening and scarring of organs such as the lungs.
Many scleroderma patients develop pulmonary hypertension (PH) or interstitial lung disease (ILD), and lung involvement in scleroderma is the leading cause of death for patients.
