Today, we are happy (nay, honored!) to feature Irene Chipounov’s story: Irene has an 8-year-old daughter, called Karina, who was born with a right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). She spent the first six months of her life in the NICU at Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California. She was discharged from the hospital with severe pulmonary hypertension (PH).

Karina hasn’t had a “normal” life due to pain medications and the stress from changing her injection site every two weeks. Yet, she remains loving and optimistic. She also is artistic, sings in six languages, plays the piano, and loves to dance.

Irene looks forward to Karina excelling in the future despite this horrible, incurable disease, and she also looks forward to a cure.

Irene, Karina is a superstar in the making!

Now back to our PH Community. Do you know any youngsters with PH? Tell us about them.

Karina’s story is on our Instagram! Go check it out and do give us a follow so you don’t miss out on any #30DaysofPH stories. We are so humbled, and uplifted by all of these stories, we hope you’re feeling the same!
