The PH community is a tight-knit group that supports and advocates for one another. We are cheerleaders when things are going well and a listening ear when things are not. Due to the heartbreaking reality of the disease, we also gather to grieve together.

New forum member, @KateB recently lost her father to Sarcoidosis and Pulmonary Hypertension. She has expressed that she thinks it would be nice to communicate with family members who lost their loved ones to PH, share the good, bad, and awful memories and experiences.

This new sub-forum, “Grief and PH”, has been added to offer Kate and all of us who have lost friends or family to PH a place to grieve and remember our loved ones.

Kate’s father lived with PH for 21 years, and his PH story is inspirational. Learn more about this amazing man and his caregivers in my column, “In memory of a beautiful life and a mountain well climbed.

If you have lost someone to PH, please share their name and a memory that has inspired you and given you hope.

Like too many of us, @cullen-steele I have experienced the grief of losing friends to PH. There have been four deaths that have hit us the hardest. Four girls, Izzy, Shea, Katie Grace, and Katy. They were very close PH/Transplant friends of Cullen, whose families became a part of ours. I’ve written several columns about them but before I re-share them, I will give Cullen a chance to express how the girls inspired him and how their memories touch his life.

I hope other members will share about their loves ones who they have lost and give @KateB a warm welcome and codolences at the loss of her father.

@KateB I know the feeling, and I am so sorry you are grieving too! In addition to several in our PH family, I lost my husband two years ago, but not to PH. The year of firsts without your loved one can be very hard, and with Christmas approaching, please consider this a place you can turn to for understanding and support. The important thing is to allow yourself to grieve.

I would love to hear more about your father. Are there any special traditions you will continue in memory of him? I have been thinking of you and wondering how you are doing. How is your mom?

Here is a link to columns that our PH columnists have written regarding grief. If you read any that hit home to you, feel free to share your thoughts here: Grief

@CAP is a new member of the forums. Her father passed away last year, possibly to PH. @KateB recently lost her father to PH as well. I thought it might be helpful to connect both of you and encourage conversation about your grief.
