The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) has unveiled eligibility criteria for patients and caregivers applying for stipends to attend next year’s PHA International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions in Orlando, Florida.

The event, set for June 29 to July 1, is open to pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients, their caregivers and community advocates.

According to a PHA news release, children applying for a scholarship may apply more than once. In addition, international scholarships will be preferably given to leaders of foreign PH associations who meet all requirements will get preference for international scholarships, or to non-U.S. patients and caregivers who follow the same rules as U.S. patients and caregivers.

The PHA reserves the right of preference to award scholarships to PH patients and caregivers who have never received financial aid to attend a PHA event. Both U.S. and foreign patients are eligible for the scholarships — adults and children alike. These cover conference registration fees, travel and lodging.

The PHA scholarship committee will accept applications beginning in January 2018. Those interested are encouraged to join PHA or renew their membership because membership is required when applying for financial aid.

Stipends are also available to PHA support group leaders and PHA PHriends volunteers, who may get part of their registration fees covered. The first 150 registered PHA Patient and Caregiver Program volunteers will receive stipends covering the registration fees.

The PHA, based in Silver Spring, Maryland, understands the need for individuals — especially families — to plan for the conference. To facilitate this process, the organization will provide regular updates on conference programming, registration and scholarships, as well as additional details.
