In this video from the Mayo Clinic, pulmonologist Dr. Charles Burger explains what the chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension is. Dr. Burger explains that pulmonary hypertension (PH) differs from regular hypertension because the blood pressure is high in the lungs which in turn makes the right side of the heart have to work much harder and become dangerously enlarged.
Debbie from Ann Arbor, Michigan, explains what it’s like living with pulmonary hypertension.
The film also talks about how difficult it is to diagnose the disease and that although there is no cure for PH, there are treatments to help with symptoms and some patients have lung transplants to increase their quality of life and life expectancy.
