An English soccer club is temporarily changing its name to highlight the UK’s Organ Donation Week. The Lancashire team’s usual name is Preston North End, but for this week it will be officially known as Preston North Beginning.
The championship club is keen to get on board and help raise awareness of the desperate need for organ donations. In the vicinity of the soccer club, there are currently 153 people waiting for various organ donations in a population of almost half a million.
The soccer team is working in conjunction with the local newspaper, The Lancashire Post, to get more people to sign up and become an organ donor. So far, the “Giving the Gift of Life” campaign has encouraged 7,527 new potential donors.
