PH YouTube Star: The Story of Chloe Temtchine
Chloe Temtchine is a celebrity and singer like many others, but she is also a pulmonary hypertension (PH) patient who uses her talent to raise awareness for the disease. The breathing tubes that the singer needs to use while singing became her mark, while her music became an inspiration for patients who also struggle with the respiratory disease that is characterized by high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs and right side of the heart.
“To paraphrase what Amy Carlberg wrote in Bust Magazine, Chloe Temtchine, with supermodel looks, intoxicating sex appeal, and a sultry, soulful voice would not look out of place on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, with the possible exception of the breathing tubes that she must use, even while performing,” is stated in Chloe Temtchine’s biography.
Chloe Temtchine was finally diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension on March 4, 2013, when she was rushed to the emergency room suffering from congestive right heart failure. She had been dealing with symptoms of the disease for five years. During this time, she was seen by numerous doctors in New York City, but she was always misdiagnosed. The misdiagnosis may have been life threatening but it dramatically altered her life.
PH Singer Debuts “Be Brave” Song at New York City O2 Breathe Gala
About a year after being diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, Chloe Temtchine launched a song about her struggle, called “Be Brave.” The song was written right after she left the critical care unit and it focuses on her fight to live regardless of the challenges she needs to face daily. Symptoms of pulmonary hypertension include shortness of breath (dyspnea), fatigue, dizziness or fainting spells (syncope), chest pressure or pain, swelling (edema) in the ankles, legs and eventually in the abdomen (ascites), bluish color to your lips and skin (cyanosis), as well as racing pulse or heart palpitations.
Be Brave is currently available on iTunes and its title refers to the courage needed to deal with a chronic and disabling condition like PH. The song “has been adopted by the PH community as its anthem, and pharmaceutical companies have shipped in excess of 120K copies to their clients. Chloe donates fifty percent of the song’s proceeds to support the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) and its mission of finding a cure.”
In addition to continuing her career as singer, advocating for pulmonary hypertension and supporting the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, Chloe Temtchine is always to eager to do more in the fight against the disease. She will launch a new music video starring children living with PH on Saturday, June 18, at the 2016 PHA International PH Conference.
The video is intended to raise awareness about kids with PH, and to raise funds for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association to support their mission of finding a cure, which is why Chloe Temtchine invites everyone to share the video on social media using the #Heart2CurePH and #BreatheMore hashtags.
