    Men’s Health & Pulmonary Hypertension: Let’s Talk 💙

This Men’s Health Awareness Week, let’s spotlight a topic that deserves more attention in the PH community: men’s health.

While women are more often diagnosed with PH, men still face serious risks, and many delay care or downplay PH symptoms. In a rare disease like PH, early detection and treatment matter.

How can we help men in our lives prioritize their health? Men with PH: What helped you speak up or get diagnosed? What can partners and caregivers do to encourage better health habits?

We would love to hear your thoughts and learn what others find beneficial.

Hi Jen! Great topic! I’d been SOB for 8 years and received multiple misdiagnoses starting in 2001. By 2009 I got so sick that one day driving to work I blacked out and crashed my car into the back of a parked car. While in the hospital doctors ran multiple tests to determine why I blacked out. Each test raised red flags until an echocardiagram showed a severe enlarged right ventricle. That followed with a right heart cath that confirmed my PAH diagnosis.

Hi @Perry Abet Mamigonian Wow, that sounds like such a frightening and overwhelming experience. I can’t imagine how difficult that must have been for you. Blackout episodes are scary enough on their own, and I’m so sorry you had to go through that while driving. I’m grateful to hear it was a parked car and that, hopefully, you weren’t seriously injured in the process.

It’s truly inspiring that after so many years without a proper diagnosis, you were finally able to get tested. I can only imagine how difficult that journey must have been. While it’s heartbreaking that it took so long, I’m so grateful you were able to start treatment and eventually meet your partner in crime, loving wife, Susie, along the way. What a beautiful silver lining in such a challenging experience!💜

Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal and vulnerable moment. It’s a powerful reminder of just how vital men’s health is. To the other men or caregivers in this space, your experiences matter too. Please feel free to share what’s helped you prioritize care or navigate a PH diagnosis.
