• Attending College with PH

There may be barriers to attending college associated with the condition, but patients with pulmonary hypertension can and do attend college despite them. Disabled students programs and other resources are often available on campuses to assist you. Accommodations can be made to ensure your access to education.

Attending college was a major goal of mine, and I was able to graduate from the University of California Berkeley in four years while battling pulmonary hypertension. I learned how to order pills and supplies and perform the sterile procedures required to maintain my intravenous Remodulin therapy. The school allowed me to take fewer than the required number of units in a semester, let me register early for classes to allow for time to discuss my needs with the professors, and helped advocate for me when I missed exams due to illness.

Use this discussion to share your experience in college, or ask questions about strategies to apply and attend college.
