• Do you have positional vertigo?

Posted by Colleen Steele on October 7, 2024 at 9:33 pm

Positional vertigo is a common inner ear disorder that causes a false sense of spinning or movement. Feeling dizzy for a few minutes as you lay down or get out of bed, is an example of this type of vertigo. Does this sound familiar?

When my world started spinning a few months ago my internist recommended that I review the YouTube video by Dr. Foster to learn the technique to cure this. I rolled my eyes at the idea of a technique instead of medication but after watching the video I’m curious enough to try it. Has anyone else used this technique to cure positional vertigo and if so, was it helpful?

There are health conditions, including PH, in which dizziness is a symptom. Please consult your doctor to determine what is causing your world to spin and if vertigo, what type is it. Ask your medical professional if this technique might work for you before you try it.

Here is the link to Dr. Foster’s vertigo technique.

Hi @Colleen , what an informative video! Manny deals with vertigo often; well, that’s what I’ve diagnosed him with. He hasn’t mentioned it to his PCP. LOL.

I shared this video with him, so I will let you know if he tries it and sees a difference. I’m sorry you have been experiencing vertigo, too, my dear friend. But this video will benefit many others, and I’m certain others here have dealt with vertigo at one time or another.

How many times have you done this? Have you tried it yet?

Thanks for sharing; it is an incredible resource!

@Colleen HI Colleen and @jen-cueva Having vertigo is pretty common. The crystals in the middle ear get out of alignment and the feeling of spinning, dizziness is very real. Many physical therapist have training and can be very effective.

I had an awful experience with vertigo and went to a physical therapist my PCP recommended and he preformed the maneuvers and it went away immediately. Dick’s balance issues are seemingly from his crystals out of alignment and our PCP recommended the director of Physical Therapy to deal with him and it is starting to work. For Dick it is going to take several sessions and home exercises.

I hope your PCP can recommend someone – feeling dizzy and spinning is no fun!

Wow, that’s more incredible information about vertigo, @carol-volckmann . We often forget about alternative resources like PT, OT, and massage, all of which have been beneficial for specific medical issues.

There are so many facets and parts of how our treatment plan could look if we blended some of these options. If something like massage or PT would benefit me, I’m all for it.

Thanks, Carol, for sharing this experience. I’m going to mention it to Manny, too. He doesn’t get it getting out of bed. His experiences have been while walking, which I am nervous about. His PCP mentioned that when it becomes bothersome, maybe they will send him to an ENT(Ear, nose, and throat) doctor.

@carol-volckmann thank you for sharing your experiences and information! I don’t know why I was skeptical that PT could help vertigo but it does. I was talking to my financial advisors assistant the other day and she has been struggling with vertigo to the point she had to take some time off. Exercising those special movements have helped her. I still kind of wish there were a pill we could take because I don’t have time for this…lol, but at least there are other options that help.

Hi @jen-cueva Dick only experiences are when he is upright and/or walking. Nothing siting, driving or in bed. When it does happen it is quite scary so, now he will walk with a walking stick he made several days when we were hiking in the mountains. At 86 we sure do not want him to fall – he has fallen twice.

Sending Manny positive vibes he sees someone who knows which maneuvers Manny needs ✨️ ❤️.

Hi @carol-volckmann , it sounds like poor guys, Manny and Dick experience this vertogo at similar times. It is scary because he was walking alone when it happened a few times. He said it hasn’t been bad these last few weeks. It’s random and pops in when he least expects it. Is that how it is for Dick?

WTG Dick at making that walking stick and using it. no falls, we need our big suportive guys.🤗

@Colleen You cracked me up – wishing there was a pill to take! I just really agree with you! Having vertigo is no fun, one more thing … enough!

You have good reason to be skeptical about PT. Seems like most PT folks are all about the $$ and what they do is smoke and mirrors!

Like everything these days it takes research and recommendations to find the right person.

Vertigo are the crystals in the middle ear that get out of alignment. Today working with the PT person for Dick, we found out the importance of being hydrated does also help keep the crystals where they belong and not get stuck! They occure at random moments while upright.

Good luck Colleen and Jen @jen-cueva for Manny. So …. here’s to carry your water bottle with you 😊🤗❤️❤️

Hi @jen-cueva I just wrote back to Colleen – yes, vertigo occurs randomly when upright or walking. That is why it can certainly cause you to fall. We also kearney today how critical being hydrated is to help the crystals realign themselves.

Dick never drinks enough water now … he has the motivation to do so! The PT positions really helped today. Today I went in with him so I could video on the phone the maneuvers she had him do.

So, Manny dear man, please make sure you are hydrated and I hope there is someone who could reconmmend a PT person who knows what they are doing.

Have a glorious weekend dear sweet friend. Sending you very gentle warm hugs filled with Joy and Love ❤️
