How do you make doctor visits or procedures more "fun"?
Since many of us are in the hospital for testing, procedures, or office visits more times than we would like to count, there must be some ways to make it fun! Since I was younger my mom and I always did something that made the trips to the doctor seem less painful. Something that we have always done after appointments is stop somewhere to get ice cream sundaes. This has always been something that I look forward to for as long as I can remember.
Besides the ice cream trips out with my mom, I try to make the appointments or procedures as comical as possible to add some humor into a day that may be kind of gloomy and boring. I have found funny shirts that I wear for appointments or procedures depending on what they are. For my GI appointments (I can’t eat that well by mouth and use a feeding tube) I wear a shirt that says “I’m just here for the food”. When I had an endoscopy done I wore a shirt that said “it’s about to go down!” Not only does this help me with some comic relief but it allows doctors to see my sense of humor even with all that I go through. I know they could probably use some humor in their days too.
Do you do anything special to help you get through appointments, procedures, or testing? Do you use comic relief to help you in stressful situations? Share all about it here!
