• Remodulin Remunity Pump

This column is highlighted this week on our PH News homepage. If my son still had PH and was on Remodulin I would be pretty excited about this.

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted an extra clearance to the Unity Subcutaneous Delivery System for Remodulin (treprostinil) Injection, also known as the Remunity pump, allowing the system to be used with drug cassettes that have been prefilled by specialty pharmacies.” In addition this new system also includes a wider range of notifications, alerts, and alarms than currently available pumps.

My son was on Flolan which I had to mix every day for my son. If I remember correctly patients/caregivers also had to mix remodulin but it had a longer shelf life. Is that correct? The idea of a pharmacy mixing the cassettes would be a time saver and illuminate a huge concern and responsibility for PH families. Because of the shorter shelf life I assume this won’t become available anytime soon for Flolan patients.

What are your thoughts about this development? If you receive remodulin will you be looking further into this option?

Although this is an older topic, I wanted to revisit it after hearing from our forum member about switching to their new Remiunity pump. In our conversations, Randy shared how he was preparing for the Accredo nurse to come and educate him on the Remiunity pump. He switched over from his MS3 pump. Thank you, Randy, for sharing so others can read about your experience switching pumps.

Below, Randy shares more about how the switch is going for him.

<b style=”font-style: italic;”>“I have started using my new pump from Remunity. I recieved a training session from a fellow who works for Accredo. Brief description. The pump is about the diameter of a silver dollar and about half inch thick. The device that is used to fill the pump is same diameter but conains a tube, the ’brains’ of the pump. There is a remote that is connected by blue tooth. This you know. Installing a filled pump requires some finger flexibility and keeping the steps in order. The most difficult part is filling the cleo tube. It requires finesse. Out of the two times I’ve done this I had trouble with this step. Once the cleo tube is filled it is just a matter of attaching to the site and starting the pump using the remote. The remote will give the steps and that helps as you go through it. Issues: There is a plastic clip that the pump can be put into but it is rather useless so I just use the case from my MS3 pump. The other problem, for me anyway, is that they changed the flow rate and the strength of my remodeling. The flow rate is half but the strength is double. One thing that I have experienced is I tend to get tired using this. Sleepy is one description but since the weather is getting warmer it maybe that is the cause. The MS3 was so easy. The device to fill the pump and the the used backing are disposable. The catherter is a real needle. In short there is a steeper learning curve with this Remunity. “

Do we have anyone else who has switched to the Remunity pump since it became available? What has your experience been like using it? Let’s talk about this!
