Life can be funny even when you are living with PH. What laugh-out-loud PH-related moments have you experienced?

@debbie had a “kids’ say the darndest things” type of conversation that she previously posted about and is worth re-sharing.

“We went to Asheville for the weekend last month and decided to check out a hip and happening donut place. The wait was outside. A father and his two young sons were waiting as well. Most children are curious why I have a tube in my nose. So, one of the sons asked why. I pulled out the nasal cannula and showed him how it was short and didn’t go way in my nose. I told him sometimes I have a hard time breathing and it helped by giving me oxygen to breathe. He thought about that for a minute and replied, “I think I need oxygen cause my boogers get in the way of my breathing sometimes.” You could see the cringe on the father’s face. I smiled and said, “sometimes my boogers get in the way too.”

When life makes you chuckle, return to this topic and share the laugh with us! It is the best medicine after all!

So we always laugh and we call the portable oxygen my husband leash because I carry the backpack most of the time and you know the super hot joggers in their … um itty bitty undies .. I always say “and that is why I have a hubby leash so you can’t chase the hotties” he usually has a funny comeback about ughh keeping up with a jogger, … but it always makes us laugh.

As we all know the meds make you have really horrible side effects and one is nose bleeds and my husband likes to yell out from the bathroom (babe I need a tampon) it makes me giggle every time  esp when the the teens get so upset about it… Another side effect we are snarky about is really bad indigestion my husbands belches’ are so loud  we started rating them so you hear us all yell a number 5,7,10 and saying good job … and if anyone farts loud in my house we say bless you, and one of my sons friends was over last week and was like “Tegan did your mom just bless your butt??? what is happening???” I was like “no I was just blessing him not to poop himself” and his friend choked for like 10 min … We are just juvenile dorks in my house I guess but its better to laugh if and when you can

@kygon you all sound like you would be a hoot to hang out with! These responses are the best! Thank you for sharing and making me laugh out loud!

LOL, @kygon, OMG, your house certainly sounds like a cool and fun place. I love it!

I adore that your hubby also has your sense of humor and sounds like the teens, too. Thanks for laughing out loud; I will start blessing Manny when he farts and see what reaction I get. I can’t wait to share why I’m blessing his butt.

Thanks for starting this thread @ColleenSteele.

My son has a dark sense of humor. When he first got diagnosed with PH, he went and got a tattoo on his chest… a bio-hazard symbol with blood spatters around the symbol. Whenever he was admitted to a hospital for anything PH related, he’d tell the nurses that’s a comment on his feelings about PH.

Two years later, he found out that that his PH was actually CTEPH and could possibly be cured with surgery. Before he traveled to UCSD for surgery, he had several red and black awareness bracelets made for his friends and family. One side said, Kick CTEPH’s Butt. That quote had the bio-hazard symbol before and after. The other side said, Before You Roar, Take a Deep Breath. That’s not the funny part; when he had those bracelets made, he had a special one made for himself. It said, F*** CTEPH!

I have to admit that I 100% agreed with that sentiment! Now that he’s doing much better, I don’t know if he still has his 1-of-a-kind bracelet. I sure hope so.

@mamabear007 I think our sons would get along well! Love and appreciate the dark sense of humor! Wouldn’t it have been great if your son could have gotten pictures of reactions to the tattoo?

A college friend of mine wanted to get a t-shirt made for Cullen that said PH*** PH! Although I 100% agree, he was only 10 at the time so I shot the offer down. I got a good laugh out of the suggestion though!

I sure do hope he still has the bracelet! Love it!

Hi @mamabear007, I love your son’s dark sense of humor. We have to make light of the hard stuff, right? I bet he had some interesting comments at the hospital about his tattoo, LOL.

I love his personalized bracelet; I hope he continues to hang on to it so he remembers that event. Does he talk openly about his PH and CTEPH surgery? Or does he try and forget about it since he’s doing so well?

@ColleenSteele, now that Cullen is an adult, he could still get the t-shirt.

Knowing my son, he still has the bracelet. He has always been the child who liked to shock and surprise people. I think he’d get along very well with Cullen.

@mamabear007 I’ll have to ask him if he would wear it but he will probably say no. He has tried to push PH has far back into the recesses of his mind.

In fact, after transplant I got him a t-shirt that read, “Contains Recycled Parts”. I thought it was great but I don’t think he ever wore it. He was just so anxious to start a new life without giving attention to his health history.

Hmm, I don’t wear t-shirts often but maybe I’ll get myself a PH*** PH sweatshirt! I would wear it! LOL!

Yes, @colleensteele, get that sweatshirt and wear it on our calls, please! I love it!

Once my late PHriend, Ellen, who was on a high dose of Revatio (sildenafil) like me, said she was going to make our shirts for the PH Conference that read, ” I take more viagra in a day than a porn star”- She didn’t because she couldn’t have them made in time. But that is still the running joke with several of my long-term PHriends who are also on a higher dose.

I agree, Colleen. If I am actually diagnosed with any form of PH, I may get myself a PH*** PH T-shirt. 🙂

I do have alpha gal syndrome. It means I’m allergic to mammal meat and mammal products and by-products. So I made a t-shirt with a picture of a bull on it, and the shirt says, “I am officially allergic to bull sh**.” LOL!

I may have to create a scandalous t-shirt for every one of my diagnoses. There has to be SOME kind of upside to the downside of illness, right?

@ColleenSteele, I understand him be hesitant to wear something that would remind him how sick he was. My son was told he’d die within a year if he didn’t have surgery, and the surgery itself gave him a fair amount of PTSD, as did taking all those medications so long that were seemingly not helping.

Of course, Manny didn’t fart once last night, and I was disappointed for a first, hehe. I’ll def let you know how he responds to your blessing. No doubt, it will happen over the weekend.

LOL @colleensteele and @kygon, this weekend, the first time I blessed Manny after a fart, he looked at me weird. Later again, the same thing happened. The next day, he finally asked, “what’s this blessing, my farts”? When I told him about the forum post and laughed, he was concerned that we were sharing about farts. I reminded him that we share lots of various topics. Hehe.

Now, he is doing that to me. Yeah, I know we gals don’t do that. But I slipped, and he blessed mine, LOL. A laugh to start the new week- cheers to y’all.

LOL, @colleensteele, I’ll let him know. He was certainly concerned about our conversations here. I was laughing so hard at him.

Look what you’ve started, @kygon; you gotta share this with your Bryan.

In the South, there’s the phrase, “Well, bless your heart,” which is (I have learned) anything BUT a blessing!

I would point out that it’s only a couple of letters off to create “Bless your fart.”

What about a t-shirt with a heart on it and the words “Bless your heart” with the “he” crossed out and a “f” inserted with a carat?

LOL @brendad53, I love your t-shirt idea. Maybe @kygon will start her own business soon. It sounds like you already have a knack for these things with your “allergy” tee. That’s too funny!

@jenc, I’m so glad I’m not the only one to bless my husband after he breaks wind. He also blesses me for farts and burbs. ????

LOL, @mamabear007, too funny. But it wasn’t me who started blessing butts; it was @kygon. I believe they also bless their burbs or celebrate loud ones, Hehe.

Of course, laughter is the best medicine. Enjoy your weekend, y’all.

Thanks so much, @mamabear007. We have a slow-paced weekend, I think. Maybe a bike ride near the beach. I’ve wanted to see the new Top Gun movie but was trying to wait and see if it slows down. I want to go when it’s not so crowded.

Hugs to you coming from San Diego.

Nothing planned here except yard and house work and some porch sitting in between.
