  Shigella Dysentery & PH – Any connection?

  I was diagnosed with severe (Idiopathic) PH and Heart Failure about 10 years ago, after desperately trying to get a diagnosis of what felt like a terminal condition that had been creeping up on me for the previous 20 years.   In the late 1980s I contracted Shigella on my way to Paris, France and spent 8 days in hospital, lost heaps of weight, lost about half of my hair and had skin peeling from my face and arms.  A couple of years after that I suddenly found I could no longer climb stairs without nearly fainting from breathlessness.  Heart block 1 was diagnosed – “You’ll be OK.”  But I was not.   After my PH diagnosis I did some research and found only 2 papers which showed a connection between development of PH after Shigella, but none of my medical team believes there’s any connection.  Anyone have a comment on this, or experience similar?
