Taking a closer look at the six-minute walk test
Researchers recently took a closer look at the six-minute walk test (6MWT), which evaluates exercise tolerance in chronic respiratory disease and heart failure.
The test measures the distance an individual is able to walk for a total of six minutes on a hard, flat surface, and the goal for PH patients is to walk as far as possible in that time. After dividing the study’s participants into two groups, researchers looked at how the 6MWT predicted patient outcomes later on and found that patients who walked 400m or more in 6 minutes had fewer occurences of PH-related death or hospitalization.

Is the 6MWT part of your treatment plan? Do you find it challenging or helpful to measure your disease’s progress this way?
