Recent research has shown success in treating pulmonary hypertension mouse models with a serotonin receptor, which prevented the disease.

Mouse models treated with the small molecule SB204741 which is an antagonist of the serotonin receptor reduced the downstream activity of proteins which can potentially lead to pulmonary hypertension. After receiving treatment, some of the PH-affected cells in the mice had normalized and had lost the characteristics associated with the disease.

Although much more research in this area needs to be done before it can be used in human clinical trials, scientists are hopeful that this may be a way to treat pulmonary hypertension in the future. Find out more about this study here.
