What to Expect During a Pulmonary Hypertension Hospitalization

In this video from the Vera Moulton Wall Center for Pulmonary Vascular Diseases, Jaclyn Doyle, a nurse practitioner, talks about what to expect if you’re hospitalized with pulmonary hypertension (PH).

Doyle explains some of the key roles of the healthcare team that will be looking after you if you need to be hospitalized, including the attending physician who will be a pulmonary hypertension specialist and the nurse practitioners. She talks about some of the reasons a person living with PH may need hospital treatment, including signs of heart failure, fluid retention, a right heart catheter for newly diagnosed patients, or the need to start an advanced therapy for PH that needs to be administered in a hospital setting.

If you need to be hospitalized, Doyle advises that you bring all of your medications along with you, especially those specifically for PH and all devices needed to administer the medication, along with your CPAP machine if you use one and a copy of your advanced directive.
