New Guidelines for Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension
According to Medical News Today, “the new guidelines are the result of collaboration between the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Thoracic Society (ATS) and were created by an interdisciplinary team of 27 physicians, based on data from more than 600 studies.”
Adults and children have different health needs, therefore normal guidelines and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of PH in adults can not be the same for children as they are for adults because of the different causes of the disease.
Children with PH typically have their pulmonary arteries blocked, which makes it harder for the heart’s right ventricle to pump blood through the lungs and they may experience shortness of breath, fainting, and may appear blue due to lack of oxygen.
