Because pulmonary hypertension is a rare and progressive disorder, patients with PH can feel isolated and lonely. In this video, 25-year-old Shani shares her story of pulmonary hypertension, a disease she was diagnosed with when she was just nine months old.

Shani has been dealing with the chronic condition all her life and admits there have been struggles.

“I just knew that I was ill all the time and I wasn’t like other kids, and I couldn’t do most activities that other kids could, until I was about nine and I came out with a new treatment that improved my quality of life,” Shani says in the video shared by The Medical Record on its YouTube channel.

Everyone is different and you can’t compare yourself to another person with PH because everyone reacts differently to all these medications.”

Despite the fact the disease is part of her unique life,  Shani believes she is not so different from other people. For her, the most important tool to fight the disease is a positive attitude.

“The positive mentality is what really brings the will power,” Shani said.
