What Questions Do You Recommend Recently Diagnosed Patients Ask Their Doctor?
Knowing what questions to ask your medical team is a BIG part of self-advocacy.
According to our forum search we have a topic going about good questions to ask your doctor, but it is focused more on long-term patients. Here is the link if you are curious. https://pulmonaryhypertensionnews.com/forums/forums/topic/questions-to-ask-your-doctor/
For those of us who have been living with PH for a while now, what questions would you recommend a newly diagnosed patient ask their doctor.
New member, @jessicap had an appointment with her doctor today and was wondering what questions she should add to her list. I’m not sure what time the appointment was but @jessicap if we didn’t catch you in time, maybe you can take these questions to the next appointment.
@jenc suggested the following:
Which tests are needed?
What treatment do they feel would be best for you?
What steps are needed on your end?
Any diet or fluid restrictions needed? Physical activity or limitations? Oxygen? What are the next steps?
Are they PH specialists?An extension to what Jen asked regarding tests needed…if you haven’t had a right heart catherization yet, I would inquire about that. A right heart cath helps determine the severity of the PH and what treatments might help the most.
