Blessed Christmas. One symptom would be depression. Over time managing PAH means dealing with logistical challenges. The priciple cause is being on oxygen full time. Participating in Advent events is challenging. So I worry about it. I just have to turn it over to Santa (repesenting God)
Cheers

@Randolph Reynolds you are not alone. The expectations of being joyous at Christmas isn’t always easy to live up to when carrying the weight of poor health and emotional stress. I sort of touched on this in this week’s column. If you are interested in reading it click on the following link. I wish you comfort and joy!

Ho no! Christmastime is here again!
Instead of "ho ho!" as Christmastime is here again, columnist Colleen Steele feels a bit of "oh no!" because of the season's stresses.

Hi, @Colleen it sounds like you, and I can relate to a few thoughts about the busy holiday season. I read your column shared with Randy and found it powerful from your caregiver perspective. You have cared for someone all of your life, it seems. I can only imagine how loud and noisy it is in your head.
What speaks to me most is not forcing participation in holiday events and expectations. I am trying and successful with some events. However, baking and caking are things I enjoy, and I will make at least 4-5 trays of goodies to give out. Manny says he will help, most likely cleaning my mess after a busy session baking and making candy in the kitchen. At least I have him to help; some live alone or with others who don’t help them in the kitchen.
Thanks for sharing. The drive home sounds like something I would love to do. It sets me in a better mood, prepares me for the holiday season, and reminds me of why we celebrate.

Hi @Randolph Reynolds ,I can relate to this, and I know I’m not alone. The holidays are not always the<em style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”> “most wonderful time of the year.”
In my recent column, published today, I discuss this topic. Carrying around oxygen and worrying about running out can be challenging during Christmas events. I remember you’ve shared about church choir concerts in the past.
I’m sending you extra hugs, love, and Christmas blessings, my friend. I hope you find some ways to participate in Advent—perhaps considering a short session instead of attending all three events.

Why it’s important to focus on self-care during the holidays
With PH, self-care during the holidays is crucial, along with good communication with loved ones, says columnist Jen Cueva.

I would gladly let Santa 🎅☃️ have my crappy feeling, but … Santa is way to nice and jolly 😊 to hand over my feeling crappy from the PAH or the medications. So Santa, you keep bringing Hope 🙏, Joy 🫠 and Love ❤️ to our homes 🏠. Merry Christmas 🎄 everyone and wishing all a New Year filled with love ❤️.

I’m not surprised that is how you answered @carol-volckmann ! I wish you and Dick a joyful, happy Christmas!
-
You’re so thoughtful and kindhearted, my PHriend, @carol-volckmann . Your answer to this question made my heart smile after a busy few days. Thank you. 💜
I hope you and Dick have a wonderful Christmas, and that feeling crappy feeling will lighten up on you and offer you a few days to feel better. We all are hopeful and want everyone to be joyous and find some peace this holiday season, however that may look for them.

I would happily and cheerfully give back to Santa my shortness of breath. I can live with fatigue, swelling, being depressed, weird pains, being worried about the future, concern about progression etc just to not be so short of breath when going up and down stairs, being able to bend over while gardening and walking for miles without having to stop to recover. That’s all.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hi @Cris Dingman , Happy New Year!
Shortness of breath(SOB) is a top wish list I bet to donate to Santa. Unfortunately, he didn’t take it away from me, how about you?
As I read your wish and the things that SOB affects, it’s frustrating, I know. But we do the best we can and so grateful we continue to have new treatment options in the horizon.
I hope you enjoyed a restful Christmas and the new year is off to a positive start!

@Cris Dingman I remember all too well how those PH symptoms weighed my son down, especially during the holidays. I truly sympathize with what you are going through. I have a picture of Cullen lifted by his dad, and carefully placing the Christmas star on the tree. He had a huge, genuine smile on his face which lit up the room more than the lights. I love that picture because at least for a moment he was feeling nothing but joy! I try not to remember his gasp for breath when his dad placed him back down.
I hope you experienced at least a few moments like that over the holiday. Are there any you would like to tell us about?

So I don’t forget have a MerryChristmas everyone.
I can relate to what everyone has said above . The boss and I only yesterday said it really does not feel like Christmas. I have a new general doctor whom I visited two weeks ago for some pain relief. Don’t know what I did to my leg but the pain in the thigh was horrible. He obviously had no idea about PAH and I stupidly did not read side effects of codeine ,PAH and shortness of breath. Oh my , I felt I only had half a lung and with the high humidity my only option was to stand right in front of the air con. for a couple of hours till things eased. I was feeling pretty down then the boss had a reaction to her bimonthly iron infusion which had me forgetting about my problems. Santa can have it all…..na Santas a good bloke. . Hey whats this ‘happy holidays ‘ rubbish instead of Merry Christmas . Hell I love being alive

Wow, what an ordeal you and the Boss Lady have been dealing with, Mate, @Terry ! I hope things will be much better as we start this new year. I feel how much you would love Santa to take it all away. But, we must have been on the Naughty list, he didn’t take any of my symptoms away. So now, we push through the days and help each other as we lean on each other. That’s why I love this close-knit group.
Did you lovebirds celebrate with family and friends this year? Did you do anything different this Christmas than in previous years?
Cheers to a better year ahead in 2025, Mate!
-
@Terry that was a lot to deal with while trying to be merry! I hope things calmed down enough to enjoy Christmas and start the new year off feeling hopeful.

Hi , @Carol alexander ,
Oh no, I am so sorry you are experiencing such a difficult time this holiday season. It doesn’t help when we feel “crappy”, I relate. It can be depressing this time of year. Were you able to have some family time or time with friends at all?
I’m sorry I didn’t see your response until after the holiday break. But I am hoping and praying you found some way to find a little bit of Christmas joy this year. We’ve missed seeing you in the forums, Carol. How can we best support you at this time?Hugs and love are headed your way from San Diego. 🤗

@Carol alexander I feel so bad hearing how bad you felt during Christmas! I hope you were feeling some improvement as you rang in the new year! How are you doing?
